Washington State tour
November 11th, 2008 by Daniel OlsenI set out on a late Fall journey to see my beautiful state. It began Saturday up over the passes on HWY 20.

Saw Winthrop, Coulee Dam and continued south meeting wonderful people who would put me up in Lyman and Lind, offering meals and the hospitality of family.

Introduced to friends and family, hearing life stories all across the state, and telling people of my journeys bonded me to the people of WA; East, West, South, big & small towns. I feel like a Washingtonian improving my former status of Seattlite. From Walla Walla, where I stayed in a Christian Aid Center not surspised by the generosity of the other homeless people staying in the shelter, I headed back West, my favorite direction, towards I-5 along the scenic HWY 12 over White Pass, through snow flurries, and sub-freezing temps. Then the route went down to longview and along the water on the WA side to Astoria. Headed up to a small retired logging town called Matlock, over to Shelton and up again on Hwy 101 back to Seattle. The tour was 1100 miles, 8 days long and one of my most meaningful & enlightening; successful! The weather didn’t matter, just prepare for it and anytime of year to tour will be pleasant. The rain was heavy, the temps. were low, and the winds were retarded, but I’m glad I did it in November.
