Vancouver -> Tijuana

Nels (teammember) and I rode this gap as out first unorganized overnight tour. We began in Vancouver, B.C. where on the first day Nels saved my life by stopping a car that had hit me from behind and came to a rest on top of me. Till this day I thank Nels for being there and being my friend since the second grade!

 It was interesting. Sleeping gear was a few extra clothes that we brought, a silver safety blanket, and we each had one person tents. I think we froze every night. Spirits were only high after coffee.

Some of the highlights:

Nels unknowingly staked his tent on top of a sprinkler in Centralia, WA. Around midnight they went off! Nels ripped his blanket to pieces trying to get out and later attempted to sleep in a sitting position on a park bench. It took nearly six months for him to be able to laugh at that one. ha!

In Northern CA my driveside crank arm broke off. I said, “Nels I’m having bike trouble.” He thought is was another flat (16 total) until I said, “It’s serious.” I attempted to JB weld it (yeah right), but ended up riding a good distance with one leg pedaling and the other resting on my rear rack. We hauled ass into town and found a bike shop! They had a used set of road cranks with the same specs. as mine w/rings! And it was only $30! Luck!

 This took 14 days to complete.
